Week 8 - Day 1 Excerpt
Today’s Thin Thought: Age
and guile over youth and beauty
We're starting our eighth week of
Thin Over 40, and we're going to stop a moment
and take a pause—a pause to look at the
effects of aging and weight gain due to menopause in women and andropause in
men. All of you most likely have heard of menopause. It's euphemistically known
as "the change".
Not as well know, however, is the term
andropause. While not as widely accepted as menopause, I believe there are
physiologically relevant changes that occur in a man, directly related to a drop
in his production of testosterone―andropause.

Setting The Day for Success
Today's Thin Thought is an oft-quoted line. People
who are older use it against those who are younger. Young people hear the line
and think they'd still rather be young and beautiful than old and crafty. Older
people really think the same thing-oh, to be young and beautiful! In other
cultures, aging is seen as gain, but in our society, aging is seen as loss.

Today I'd like you to take some time to really think
about what you perceive as physical "perfection". Is it a flat stomach? A
certain weight? Is it firm arms? Fitting into a certain pants size? What is
perfection to you? Have you always felt that way, or have your ideals of
perfection changed? What caused the change―desperation?
