Today’s Thin Thought: You
don't get everything you need from the food you eat
I am so proud of you! Here we are, beginning our
fifth week of the Thin Over 40 plan. This week we
are going to be taking a look at the role of nutritional supplements and proper
adrenal and thyroid functioning. For those of us over forty, maintaining a
healthy weight and energy level can be more complicate than keeping your food
intake down to a set number of calories per day. Over forty, we need to be
strategic not only about what nutrients we get from food, but also about ways we
can support our bodies through nutritional supplementation. The research is
exciting and encouraging! Continue your daily assignments:
Drink lots
of water
Bend,
stretch, and move upon waking
Walk in
the morning for at least 25 minutes
Keep track of what you put in your mouth
Watch your servings/portions
Watch your intake of unhealthy fats
Move more during the day
Chose a variety of whole foods over fragmented foods
Setting The Day for Success
The Key Concept for this week is the role of the
Adrenals. Your adrenal system and your thyroid work together to regulate
your body's production of hormones. If your adrenals are overworked or stressed,
the thyroid automatically turns the metabolic rate down in order to "calm" the
system. This reduction in metabolic rate means weight gain. It is important,
therefore to identify ways your adrenal system can be stressed.

in Action
Look at your life and see if there are circumstances or
situations in your life that can be stressing your adrenal system. Some of the
causes of adrenal stress are anger, fear wear/anxiety, depression, guilt,
physical or mental strain.
